Hello July!

It is hard to believe that half of 2016 has already gone and we are entering July. To tell the truth I’ve never really been a fan of this seemingly endless month of heat waves but this is the first time in my entire life that I actually work in an office during these 31 days, and strangely enough, I look at the experience with anticipation (at least I won’t boil in my own room but have an air-conditioned work space).

According to Edith Holden “This month was originally the fifth of the year, and was called by the Romans Quinctilis, the latin name of Julius was given in honour of Julius Caesar, who was born in this month.”

In Nature notes of an Edwardian Lady she also mentions some British phrases related to July which I absolutely enjoy:

“St. Swithin’s Day (July 15th) if it do rain, for forty days it will rain”
(Funnily enough, we also have a Hungarian saint who brings 40 days of rain, but his day is 8th of June)

“St. Swithin’s Day if it be fair, for forty days ’twill rain nae’ mair”

“A swarm of bees in May is worth a load of hay, a swarm of bees in June is worth a silver spoon, a swarm of bees in July is not worth a fly.”

“In July shear your rye.”

I hope you guys will enjoy this month’s downloadable calendar of pommegranades and olives, as – to me -these represent the tropical climate we live in, here in Central-Europe.

Let’s colour! #1

Naturally, I couldn’t turn a blind eye on the recent craze about adult colouring books. I was considering buying the beautiful Secret Garden for a long time, but I was discouraged by the price and the bad quality paper. But then, – I thought – why can’t I draw my own colouring page? So this is how the drawing below was born (and some others, which might come later). I made it downloadable, so you can also try how relaxing it is to colour.

Lazies

On this blog I usually stick to my own creations but this time I make an exception. I found these adorable cards on Pinterest, which can be freely downloaded from the site of Mr Printables. There’s some other fantastic material on that site, so browse through! All their stuff is free, all you need to do is print them. I completely fell for the business.

Lent and lost

Okay, this may not be of much help to those not speaking Hungarian, but I must explain what this is. :D When I lend stuff to people it often happens that I forget to whom and what I gave, and then years later I have no idea where the items are. So I made this printable sheet, where I can write down what, when and to whom I lend my things, then cross them out when I have them back. It’s pretty useful, really. The downloadable version is Hungarian, but if you’d have one, just drop me a line.

Instant Mother’s Day gift!

Sometimes one is very busy around Mother’s Day… Some years ago we had critical amount of work at the beginning of May so on the previous evening at 11 pm my sister and I were completely clueless as to what to give Mum the next day.. That’s when we found out this instant gift idea to write little comforting notes and stick them about in the flat so all day long Mum would find positive messages on her special day. It was great success so I thought I’d share 8 cards to write your messages on. All you need to do is print this sheet and write your greetings. It’s super quick, easy and every mum will love it!

Calendar!

I’m afraid I’m a bit late with calendars, but it’s now I needed it. I’ve been looking for a downloadable calendar but I didn’t really like them. Then I found this lovely piece on the Elli blog, but I happened to fall in love with her 2014 calendar. No prob, I thought, I would drop a 2015 template on it. However, all templates I found started with Sunday in the first coloumn. Now who on earth starts his week with a Sunday? Curious, really… So I had no option but to create my own template and here is the result. If you like it, you can download it here.

Cheers :)
